Montessori education is an educational approach that progresses from early childhood to adolescence, according to the needs of the child's age group, by accepting the differences of each individual. Montessori and Toy Selection:
In the Montessori approach, toys are selected according to the age group of the children. At this point, an environment suitable for the development and abilities of the child is created.
For children up to one year old, toys such as rattles, grab and pull toys, materials that develop touch, vision and hearing suitable for the age group are selected. Between the ages of one and two, toys such as throwing and removing shapes and objects to appropriate places, puzzles with several pieces, and color matching are preferred. Between the ages of two and three, toys such as puzzles, shape toys, color matching, geometric towers are preferred. Between the ages of three and four, toys such as play dough, numbers, and grouping trays are preferred. Between the ages of four and five, tasks such as number sticks, tying laces, cutting wooden fruits and vegetables are done and toys are played with. After the age of five, toys such as sand tray, ring throwing, wooden repair kit are played with. At the age of six, it is played with toys such as carpet loom, math cubes, board games.
